DRECMNHS opens special science class!

August 11, 2010 By: admin Category: Administrative and Special Services Dept.

Our school, the Don Ramon E. Costales Memorial National High School (DRECMNHS) will be the tenth secondary schools in Pangasinan II Schools Division to have special science class pursuant to DepEd Order No.55, S-2010 issued by the Bureau of Secondary Education.

A total of 70 freshmen took their qualifying examination last July 13, 2010 administered by the Schools Division, supervised by Ms. Cecilia A. Bautista, education supervisor for English. The examination covered subject areas in Science, English and Mathematics.

The science class will only have 40 students which will focus on science and technology. The students will be immersed on practical and research aspects of science and technology which is the focus of the national government.

The students who will belong to the class must have an average grade of 85% and a retainer grade of 80% in all subject areas.

Our school principal, Rowena Lea G. Moreno said that the inclusion of the school for the special science class is a welcome development because qualifying for such took a tedious process. The school facilities and the capabilities of the teachers have been evaluated by the DepEd’s Regional Office.

“We are happy to have been included among the five national high schools that will have special science classes this school year. This proves that our school has already met the standards imposed by the Department of Education (DepEd). This is an achievement not only for the school administration but parents and students, as well,” the principal said.

The top ten students who passed the admission tests to the special science class are: Danica Quebral, Mark Louise Ancheta, Monique Bustamante, Trisha Mae Marpuri, John Reynaldo Macanas, Gerald Salazar, Armeie Madriaga, Jenica Rubino, Marlon Madronio and Hadassah Leia Ingles.

Others who passed to complete the 40 students are: Jessica Pascua, Rubemar Ordonio, Hannah Cares Casuncad, Angeli June Battad, Jumel Carl Novencido, Micah Ellaine Mones, Shaina Jenica Ballera, Jerica Mae Vetonio, King Jamil Orpiano, Morris Mortera, Jonalie Jan Lopez, Christine Joy Sibayan, Eleanor delos Reyes, Danielle Macabitas, Sherry Mae Mejia, Mark Razil Nagtalon, Filam Joe Sepnio, Christian Bayya, Jan Clarisse Bautista, Edwin Bascos, Marielle Faith Barba, John Carlo Manantan, Levi John Basconcillo, Jilliane Pagulayan, Kate Caballero, Carlo Taroma, Dessylyn Magpale, Ellen Nicole Gundran, Juvilee Ordoñez and Mikah Serra.

Meanwhile, the school is also undergoing supplemental feeding among its 150 freshmen students to maintain their body mass index (BMI).

School Nurse Cherry Masilang said that the number of malnourished students is not alarming. “We have to maintain the 14.5 – 23.7 kg. weight of the 12-year old students, By providing them with supplementation in their food intake, they will be healthier and they could grasp their lessons easily,” Masilang said.

The supplemental feeding is undertaken by the school canteen personnel. The prepared food supplementation is financed out of the income of school canteen operations.

Agency Background

June 18, 1962 saw the birth of the Villasis High School.  The local administration of the time was composed of Mayor Ramon E. Costales, Vice-Mayor Juanito O. Calimoso, and Municipal Councilors Emilio Bascos, Perla Madrid, Nemesio Ramat, Pelayo Mina, Florentino Florendo, Eustaquio Lopez, Servillano de Leon, and Alfonso Ragasa.  These were the men who worked as a team to make a dream come true… the putting up of a school, which would offer, cheap but quality secondary education.

On opening day, 252 first and second year boys and girls wholeheartedly entrusted their intellectual, social, cultural, moral, and spiritual development to a bunch of pioneering teachers who called themselves the “Magnificent Seven”.  They were Mrs. Lydia S. Derexes as Teacher-In-Charge, Mrs. Felisa Ramat, Mrs. Eufemia A. Evangelista, Miss Fe M. Rabe (now Manangan), Mrs. Braulia R. Rabara, Mrs. Conrada A. Espiritu, and Mr. Tony Manangan.

Both pioneering teachers and students, fueled by a strong vision and perhaps, to give justice to the gift of the municipal government, underwent many trials and difficulties like having to hold classes in two borrowed rooms in Villasis Central
School, a room at the municipal Town Hall, a temporary makeshift classroom at the back of the old public auditorium or at time, when the weather was fine and sunny, under the old caimito trees that abound the hall.  In its second year of founding, the full secondary course was offered.

The Villasis High School held its first commencement exercises on April 22, 1964.  There were 22 graduates.  The school was very much honored to have its first Commencement Speaker, Atty. Pedro M. Pascasio, Schools Division Superintendent of Pangasinan.

In August 1964, Mrs. Rolendia S. Edralin of Lingayen, Pangasinan, took over as the first appointed principal, a position she held for three years.  It was also at this time when the school moved to its present site, at Gen. Luna St., Poblacion Zone II.  The school plant was complete with a principal’s office, five classrooms, a library, a clinic, a canteen, and two comfort rooms.

In 1967, Mr. Alfredo M. Costales, who joined the staff in 1964, served as Teacher-In-Charge in view of the promotion and eventual transfer of Mrs. Edralin to Pangasinan National High School.  Under his able administration, five more classrooms, a PTA building, and two comfort rooms were constructed.

A year later, in 1968, Mr. Mateo T. Casem took over as Teacher-In-Charge.  With his remarkable performance, he was promoted Asst. Principal, which he occupied for a year.  Subsequently, he became Principal I, a position he held until his retirement from public service in 1971.
